Welcome!
Good morning!!!
And Welcome to my new blog to (eventually) buddy up to my new YouTube channel :)
I think many people view the word "travel" as one of the following:
1. a vacation of a week or more
2. having to get on a plane
3. visiting a different country
4. having exotic experiences
While I do agree with all of those, I also believe that we travel every single time we leave our homes.
I have a goal in life...well, more than one, but this one is relevant so stay focused...to be the best, most prepared and organized traveler ever! This includes all kinds of travel, whether you are going to the grocery store or across the globe organization and preparation can make or break your experience in a million tiny ways. I aim to be prepared wherever I am going to make my experience the best it can be or at least be prepared for when it goes south.
When I was 9 my family moved to Jamaica, but after a few short months we had to return quickly. At 10 years old I was in charge of packing my carry on bag for the trip home to NC; however, with little guidance I only packed what I thought would be important...socks and underwear...like 5 pairs of each. Oy vey, how the 10 year old mind works :)
Through a series of unfortunate events we ended up missing our connecting flight in Miami and had to spend the night in the airport. Since we had been rebooked on a super early morning flight we could not really leave the airport, so the staff found us a conference room to stay in. The only problem was that the cold air would not turn off so it felt like being in the middle of a blizzard with no snow! Keep in mind we were in shorts and t-shirts having just flown in from Jamaica having no warm clothing to change into. And all I had was extra socks and underwear...so I did what was logical and put on as many pairs of socks as I could to try and keep my feet warm. I did share my stash with my 4 year old sister so we both had huge sock feet :)
Needless to say, that experience left a huge impression on me so from an early age I began overpacking...like trying to take every possible thing with me to ensure I would be comfortable in all situations. Can you imagine how heavy my bags were?!? While my bags are still sometimes a little heavier than I want them to be, I have become a much smarter and more prepared traveler in the years since I was 10...hooray for progress!!!
Now that you know the source of my obsession...er, passion...what is the reason for this blog?
Every single time I travel I come across people who are uncomfortable for one reason or another and I can often suggest a solution. Many times people look at me with either profound confusion or delight that they never heard or thought of what I suggest to them.
The goal of this blog is to share some of my ideas and travel gadgets that have made a huge difference in my travel experience. I am not a minimalist by any means, in fact, I sometimes still overpack...but I would rather be over prepared than under prepared in most situations. I will also let you know of things I try that absolutely do not work or make travel harder than it should be.
In the future I will also be filming YouTube videos to accompany some of the blog posts, but that courage must be built up a bit first :)
So, welcome to my blog; I'm so glad you are here! I'm excited to share my tips and tricks with you and hope you get some good ideas that make your travel experiences a little more enjoyable.
Until next time, have a meraki day!
Greekmeraki [may-rah-kee] (adjective)
This is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love — when you put "something of yourself" into what you're doing, whatever it may be. Meraki is often used to describe cooking or preparing a meal, but it can also mean arranging a room, choosing decorations, or setting an elegant table.
