My Travel Kitchen Essentials for Keeping Healthy on the Road
Hola and welcome back!
I don't know about you, but eating out while traveling gets old super fast especially when I'm on a work trip. When I travel for work I am typically teaching or collaborating with my team so having healthy food keeps my brain more focused and helps me sleep much better...and we should all get better sleep, right?!
Our family eats a mostly plant based diet at home, meaning we do not buy any meat or dairy and are really trying to also cut out wheat and sugar as well. Occasionally we have these items if we eat out, but it is not super often and is definitely not a part of our regular diet. All that to say, eating while traveling can be quite difficult when you want to stay with this type of diet; however, I have a group of items I take with me to ensure I can eat the way I want no matter where I am. All I need is a grocery store and I am good to go!
1. MiAroma Rice Cooker
2. Collapsible Water Kettle
3. Collapsible Coffee/Tea Cup
4. Mini Travel Blender
5. Travel Spice Containers
6. Travel Cutlery
7. Other misc kitchen items: small cutting board, small ceramic knife, measuring cup/spoon, rice paddle, mini silicon kitchen mit, clothes pins, ziplock bags (I keep these items in a small packing cube in my pantry so they are ready to go as soon as I am!)
Let me tell you, these items have been an absolute life saver during my travels!
Here are few ways I use these awesome tools:
1. MiAroma Rice Cooker - with this handy little guy I can make rice, grits (yes, I am a Southern girl!), steamed potatoes and veggies as well as reheat leftovers
2. Collapsible Water Kettle - I am a tea person and religiously always have Sleepytime tea before bed, however, this little kettle also makes oatmeal in a snap as well as any other instant meals
3. Collapsible Coffee/Tea Cup - I am in love with this thing! It folds up so small it can fit in my purse so once I am done with my tea I can just give it a quick rinse and stash it away without creating any additional waste
4. Mini Travel Blender - when my original mini blender broke I went on the hunt for a new small travel blender and this one has definitely done the trick. I love to have smoothies for breakfast when I travel so I premix all of my seeds and dry ingredients to make sure they are blended super well, then all I have to add is a banana, plant milk and a little ice. Smoothies for the win! Bonus, the lid is fits super tight and will not spill even when tossed into your backpack...trust me, I know :)
5. Travel Spice Containers - I was tired of trying to find a solution for my spices when cooking in my hotel room; I tried several things and they were just all too big and bulky; however, this one is actually made for backpacking so it is small and durable. Plus, you can remove just one or two of the double-sided containers if you do not need all of them
6. Travel Cutlery - I originally got a set of these for my husband to use for his lunch everyday; he liked them so much I had to get a set for myself and they have been worth it. Now I always have what I need and do not have to go hunting around the airport or hotel for utensils
7. Other misc kitchen items - these are all items I have needed in the past on one trip or another, so whenever I am in need of something I make a note to add it to my pack once I return
Do you travel with kitchen items? If so, what are some of your favorites? Or, which of the items above could make your travel/food experience a little nicer?
Until next time, have a meraki day!!!
